Association

The Postgraduate Institute of Management Alumni in the United Arab Emirates (PIMA-UAE) is a non-profit professional organization consisting of more than 200 MBA graduates of Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM). The Alumni was established in 2011 along with the students who graduated from the very first UAE MBA program (2008-2009) and since then the association’s membership has witnessed a continuous increase with each successfully completed batches MBA graduates from UAE. PIMA-UAE members play leading roles in various government and corporate organizations in the UAE as well as around the world. The alumni members are a closely knit group of professionals who are uniquely committed to the society and to each other. The primary objective of the alumni association is to provide continuing academic and professional development for its members and other Sri Lankan professionals residing in UAE, while promoting social engagements and networking through various activities. The Alumni is one of the seven professional bodies attached to the Sri Lankan Professionals Association of UAE (SLPA-UAE) established in 2019 under the patronage of the Consul General office of Sri Lanka in Dubai. PIM is a semi-autonomous body affiliated to the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Its objectives are to promote advanced education and professionalism in management in Sri Lanka through the provision of postgraduate instruction, training, research, and development in various branches of management and administrative studies. Today, it serves as the national interests of professional management education and the training on a wider scale providing challenging opportunities for learning and skill development to thousands of senior-level managers and administrators. Being the pioneer of advanced management education in Sri Lanka, PIM provides leadership to those who are in the business of innovating and disseminating management know-how as well as to those who are in search of higher learning alternatives. PIM conducted its flagship MBA courses since 1986 which is now widely recognized for high quality management education across Sri Lanka.

Dr. Senaka Kelum Gamage

Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Management at Sri Jayewardenepura University

Dr Senaka Kelum Gamage is the Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Management at Sri Jayewardenepura University. He is an academic and administrative professional with over 25 years of experience in the Sri Lankan university system, having held several leadership roles both within and outside the university, and having contributed to many commercial and public sector initiatives. He earned his doctorate in accounting from St. Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance in 1992, after completing his master's degree in 1988. Dr Gamage previously worked as a Senior Lecturer (Grade I), Faculty of Management Studies & Commerce (FMSC), Department of Accounting (DA), University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ). From 2017 to 2018, he served as the Director, Local Technical Secretariat (OTS), USJ, for the World Bank-funded Accelerating Higher Education Expansion and Development (AHEAD) Project. Dr Gamage has also been the Head, Department of Accounting, FMSC, USJ three times – from March 2003 to January 2006, February 2008 to January 2011, and from April 2014 to June 2016. He has been a frequent Resource Person/Trainer for Workshops and Training Programs conducted by World Bank Funded AHEAD projects – from 2016. He has also been a National Consultant/ Reviewer on Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education, IRQUE Project, and Ministry of Higher Education – from 2007. Dr Gamage was also the Chief Examiner for CMA Professional Examinations for Management Accounting Fundamentals, Information Technology Application, and Computer-Based Accounting Subjects from 2015 to date. Dr Gamage had several research publications. Noteworthy among them are the papers published on Accounting Development in Sri Lanka at the International Conference on Business Management in the Third World – Organized by University of Economics and Finance – Leningrad (Russia) 1990 and the paper titled "Professional perceptions on earnings management – the effect of demographic factors," co-authored with Dr Roshan Ajward, jointly presented on in 2015 at the 13th Management Accountants International Conference of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan. He had also presented a paper on "Reverse Service Quality Gap of 3PL Market in Sri Lanka" at the Academy for Global Business Advancement's 14th World Congress held in Kenya in 2017, and another paper titled Factors Behind Online Impulsive Buying Behaviour in Sri Lankan Context), Academy for Global Business Advancement's 16th World Congress held in India in 2001.

Mr. Nalinda Wijerathna

Hon. Consul General of Sri Lanka Dubai & Northern Emirates

Mr. Nalinda Wijerathna, Hon. Consul General of Sri Lanka in Dubai & Northern Emirates is a career commercial diplomat having 15 years of experience in the Public Service. He joined the Department of Commerce in 2005 as an Assistant Director and has held positions in various divisions and capacities both at the Department of Commerce of Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka’s overseas Missions. Immediately prior to been appointed as the Consul General in Dubai & Northern Emirates, he served as the Head of Trade Promotion Division of the Department of Commerce.
His professional career in Sri Lanka’s overseas Missions includes Counsellor (Commercial) at the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland (2013 to 2016). He also served as the First Secretary (Commercial) at the Sri Lanka High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa from 2007 to 2010. Mr. Wijerathna has served as a member of various Sri Lanka delegations to many international fora, and has also taken part in delegations negotiating trade pacts for Sri Lanka in various bilateral, regional and multilateral level Agreements.
Mr. Wijerathna holds a Master of Financial Economics degree from the University of Colombo. He graduated in B. Com (Special) degree with 2nd class from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and holds Mastering Trade Policy from the Harvard University in USA. He also holds Diploma in Advanced Trade Policy from the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland and Diploma in Certified Management Accountants (CMA).

Mr. Malraj De Silva

Ambassador

Ambassador, Malraj De Silva is a carrier administrator in various capacities. His primary and secondary education was completed at Ananda College, Colombo (prestigious Buddhist school in Sri Lanka), graduated as a Civil Engineer, completed Electrical Engineering from Council of Engineering Institutions (England) and Building Official from International Conference of Building Officials (USA).
He was directly enlisted to Sri Lanka Army Engineering Corps, Area Quantity Surveyor in charge of all construction activities in Northern Palace in Sultanate of Oman and became the Supervising Manager for the Construction Inspection Department of Construction Management Unit of Los Angeles County Development Agency prior to becoming the Ambassador.
He was appointed as the Consul General of Los Angeles and Eight Western States of the United States of America. He is married to Ranjanie De Silva, having three children and four grandchildren.
